ARIse

Accountable & Responsible Individuals for Sustainable Existence

ARISE is a praxis model of lifelong education focusing on civics and values for K-12 students to be accountable and responsible individuals for sustainable existence.

ARISE, Civic Sense and Values

Kerala society seems to lack awareness in civic duties and responsibilities due to several reasons. However, we are planning to make a project in “Content Creation” on Civic Sense and Values for K-12 Students. The contents are developed as a progressive curriculum from Kindergarten to twelth standard having 30 subjects both in English and Malayalam in 30 week – a lesson per week (15 classes x 30 weeks = 450 lessons) ranging from K-12th classes. The lessons are prepared and organized as text, stories, audios, illustrations and videos of experiments and experiences. The lessons are initially prepared as ‘creative contents’ in digital format and will be redesigned in a later stage as text-story books and audio books for children. The lessons are aimed to facilitate the parents, elders and teachers who are looking for contents that make the Society Accountable and Responsible Individuals for Sustainable Existence (ARISE) for today and for the generations to come.

ARISE Objectives

  1. Inculcate in each Individual the Responsibility Towards society and democratic government
  2. Building communities/ Societies
  3. Sustainable Existence
  4. Sustainable Future
  5. Eco-friendly Life style
  6. Clean and Green Activities

Civics

The study of the rights and duties of citizenship.
civics is the study of the rights and duties of citizenship. also the duties of citizens to each other as members of a political body and to the government, why should we study it? it is important that we study it because it helps people understand how government works
Civic Education in a democracy is education in self government. Democratic self government means that citizens are actively involved in their own governance; they do not just passively accept the dictums of others or acquiesce to the demands of others.

Why is civic education important?

Civic education is an established part of the curriculum in social studies. Content in government, law, and citizenship is woven into the typical elementary school social studies program. High school government courses are mostly offered at the twelfth grade. Civic education empowers us to be well-informed, active citizens and gives us the opportunity to change the world around us. It is a vital part of any democracy, and equips ordinary people with knowledge about our democracy and our Constitution. We come to understand our role and responsibility as active citizens.

What are some civic responsibilities?

They are voluntary. Civic duties include, for example, obeying the laws of the country, paying the taxes levied by the government, or serving on a jury or as a witness in court. Civic responsibilities encompass actions like registering to vote and voting, and serving on statutory boards and committees.

Here's a list of things you can do right now to be a better citizen.

Volunteer to be active in your community. Be honest and trustworthy.
Follow rules and laws.
Respect the rights of others.
Be informed about the world around you.
Respect the property of others.
Be compassionate.
Take responsibility for your actions.

What is the difference between civics and social studies?

“Social Studies” encompasses the study of all social sciences: sociology psychology anthropology history economics political-science etc. Civics is a subset of social studies - also known as “government” when consider as a course of study in US high school or college
